- PATTERN:
In the Japanese culture, Furisode were once the most prestigious traditional dress for unmarried women to wear. This kimono features Kyo-Yuzen, which is a technique for hand painting elaborate and colorful patterns onto silk. It’s an art that can be traced back to the Edo period. There is also hand painted silver leaf design.
The patterns of each kimono have different meanings, symbolizing prayers and wishes. Flower designs to symbolize beauty and longevity. Pattern variations with winding lines equate to waves and moving water. Flowing water is considered to be good luck, clarity and purity. Waves carry the meaning of birth, longevity, and eternity, because they are unending. The lotus flower, known as hasu in Japanese, holds significant meaning in Japanese culture and kimono decoration. The lotus is also considered a sacred flower, representing a pure heart and spiritual aspirations. Interlocking triangle shape, known as Uroko is a powerful traditional symbol of protection that signifies the triumph of gods over malevolent forces. - CARE:
This is a vintage garment that is approximately 74 years old. This is a hand loomed, hand sewn, high quality silk garment. In it’s current state, the garment is suitable for wear, however it is delicate. Spot clean only. Do not launder, or dry clean, because the detergents may cause the hand painted features or other embellishments to wash away. If the time comes to store the garment for a long time, it is recommended that you do not store in plastic. Traditionally, high quality silk materials are best preserved when stored in a moisture free environment in a breathable cotton bag. Silk should never be left in direct sunlight for long periods of time. - PRODUCT ID: KIM-Silver_Fursode_1.
